Case Study: Custom Pillows Return to Build Excitement for the Pete Holmes Show

Pete Holmes was launching his new late-night comedy show on TBS, following Conan O'Brien. For the premier, Turner Broadcasting was hosting a pre-launch party for the press. The goal was to create buzz in the media and heighten anticipation for their late-late-show. In order to ensure that the party had a lasting effect, Turner Broadcasting wanted a promotional gift that could be distributed at the end of the party.

The party was a mirror of the pre-launch party that had been hosted for Conan O'Brien when he began his late-night talk show on TBS. Therefore, the Pete Holmes' launch party wanted the same pillows that Conan had used for his promotional event. The pillows served well to create a relaxing and fun, yet classy, atmosphere for the media attendees. They also created the lasting impression that TBS was looking for.

Implementation:

Since Turner Broadcasting had already worked with IASpromotes.com, the company knew exactly what promotional merchandise they were hoping to order. However, the Pete Holmes show has a slightly different mood and atmosphere than the Conan O'Brien show. Therefore, Turner Broadcasting wanted the font and color scheme of the Pete Holmes pillows to be different than Conan's pillows. The company decided on black pillows with a white font. One side read "The Pete Holmes Show" while the backside of the pillow was emblazoned with the TBS logo.

Results:

The imprinted pillows helped create a classy atmosphere for the party. Placed on white couches, the black logoed pillows made a striking impression. As the host of the party said, "It went great; we used them everywhere!" The Pete Holmes show premiered to incredible reviews and ratings, in no small part due to the positive response from media personnel who attended the party. TBS attributed part of that success to the pre-launch party and the impact of the customized pillows.
